Profile
WorkPods Midrand is an innovative entrepreneur business campus at 1024 Brand Road, President Park in Midrand — a purpose-built, 24/7 secure facility where more than 200 businesses operate from self-contained, affordable workspaces on flexible month-to-month leases, supported by shared facilities, community events, business development programmes, and event and meeting spaces that make it one of the most complete small-business ecosystems in Gauteng. Originally launched in 2016 under the name “Storehouse,” rebranded as “Co.Space,” and relaunched as WorkPods – Community of Entrepreneurs from 1 March 2025, the campus has spent nearly a decade refining a model that puts the right combination of space, support, community, and environment at the centre of every entrepreneur’s working day.
The Origin: Nine Years of Research and Iteration
WorkPods was born from a genuine insight gap. After a full year of researching local and international offerings — shared offices, self-storage, micro warehouses, collaborative workspaces, and similar formats — the founding team concluded that all existing solutions fell short of what entrepreneurs truly need to thrive: the right space, the right support, a real community, and a purposeful environment. The first facility opened in Midrand in 2016, and the campus has grown steadily since to become home to over 200 businesses spanning a remarkable diversity of industries. The 2025 rebrand to WorkPods reflects the maturity of this vision: “pods” are purpose-built, modular, self-contained units designed for flexibility, efficiency, and functionality — exactly what the campus provides at every level.
The WorkPods: Six Types of Business-Ready Spaces
WorkPods offers six distinct workspace types, each designed for a specific kind of business or entrepreneur. All are available on month-to-month leases — no long-term commitments — and all include 24/7 access, free Wi-Fi, prepaid electricity and water, and access to shared campus facilities.
Offices — private, professional office spaces for consultants, service businesses, agencies, and remote workers who need a dedicated business address and work environment. Sizes range from 18m² upward, with shopfront configurations available.
Studios — creative work spaces ideal for designers, photographers, content creators, tutors, hair and beauty professionals, and other small-scale service providers. Walk-in salon businesses specifically use Studio units at WorkPods as their dedicated client-facing space.
Workshops — practical hands-on spaces for skilled trades, makers, and technical service providers who need more than a desk but don’t require a full industrial facility.
Warehouses — light industrial storage and operational spaces for product-based businesses, e-commerce fulfilment, distributors, and businesses needing controlled storage without committing to a large industrial lease.
Kitchens — commercial-grade kitchen spaces for food entrepreneurs, caterers, meal-prep businesses, and food product manufacturers who need a certified and equipped cooking environment without the capital cost of building their own.
Showrooms — customer-facing spaces with shopfront access, ideal for businesses selling products or services directly to walk-in clients. Showroom units at WorkPods provide a professional retail-adjacent presence without the cost of a full shopping centre lease.
All unit sizes range from 18m² to 72m², with month-to-month rental flexibility and no long lock-in periods. Rental pricing starts from approximately R6,000 per month for an 18m² office, with larger units priced proportionally.
Nomad Pods: Event Space, Meeting Rooms, and Hot-Desking
For visitors, freelancers, and businesses that don’t require a dedicated workspace, WorkPods offers three Nomad Pod formats:
Meeting Pods — located within the Business Hub, these private meeting rooms accommodate up to 8 people for client discussions, team collaborations, and business meetings. Tenants receive four free hours per month, with hourly rates applicable thereafter. Available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Event Pods — the campus’s dedicated event space, situated next to the on-site café. Available for half-day or full-day rental, the Event Pod is set up for product launches, training sessions, exhibitions, conferences, and business networking events. The space includes internet connectivity, seating, and tables, with on-site catering options available. The Event Pod is designed to support both intimate gatherings and corporate functions, providing a professional-grade environment that reflects the campus’s broader commitment to business growth.
Hot-Desking Pods — flexible daily, weekly, or monthly desk access within the Business Hub for entrepreneurs, freelancers, and remote workers. Included amenities: high-speed internet, access to meeting rooms, printing/scanning/copying facilities, private lockers, and complimentary coffee and tea. Hot-Desking members also join the full WorkPods community network, gaining access to all community and networking events.
Shared Facilities and Campus Infrastructure
Beyond the individual pods, WorkPods provides a comprehensive set of shared campus amenities that give even the smallest business access to professional-grade support:
- Business Hub with co-working and meeting facilities
- On-site coffee shop for daily refreshments and informal client meetings
- Outdoor pause areas for breaks and informal networking
- Reception services — professional front-of-house for the campus
- Courier services — package receiving and dispatch
- Backup power supply — load-shedding protection for uninterrupted business
- Backup water supply — continuity through municipal water disruptions
- Entrepreneur development programmes — formal learning and mentorship support
- 24/7 access with security and access control — the campus never closes
- On-site parking — ample and secure
The Community: Networking, Masterclasses, and Growth
What distinguishes WorkPods from a standard business park is its deliberate investment in community. The campus hosts regular business masterclasses featuring industry experts, networking functions to build inter-business connections, social gatherings to develop relationships, and themed “Network Pods” — structured sessions where entrepreneurs from complementary sectors collaborate and problem-solve together. A public-facing community members directory on the WorkPods website makes the network visible and searchable, reinforcing the campus’s role as a connected ecosystem rather than a collection of isolated tenants.
Reviewers describe the community dimension in striking terms. One Africa Biz reviewer called WorkPods “a five-star environment for business owners looking to move from home or shared space into professional premises at reasonable cost — with great networking opportunities, business support, training and mentorship on tap, and high security. Month-to-month rental means you’re not signing your life away. Great for side hustles — open 24/7.” Another reviewer praised the campus as “a lovely one-stop incubation centre for small businesses — an entrepreneurs’ village where small businesses find markets within. Their support system is the best. Great, timely and flawless service from Malibogwe Khati and the team.”
