Vergelegen Wine Estate is one of South Africa’s most historically significant and naturally breathtaking wine estates, situated in Somerset West in the Cape Winelands. Founded on 1 February 1700 — making it over 325 years old — Vergelegen is a National Heritage Site whose majestic gardens, award-winning wines, and exceptional culinary offering have made it one of the Western Cape’s most beloved destinations for visitors, wine lovers, and event hosts alike.

Event Spaces and Venues

Vergelegen offers a portfolio of enchanting event venues set within its extraordinary historic grounds. The Riverside Conservatory is a stunning 25m x 30m glass marquee erected near the Lourens River, seating up to 400 guests for weddings and corporate functions in an elegant, weather-proof setting with manicured riverside lawns for pre-event drinks. The Camphor Forest offers a magical outdoor setting beneath a canopy of five ancient camphor trees, declared National Monuments in 1942. The Octagonal Garden, dating to the 18th century, provides a timeless setting for ceremonies and pre-event drinks, framed by the historic pergola and centuries-old trees. The Stables Restaurant seats up to 110 guests for wedding receptions and private functions, with a private room for 40 guests. The charming Rose Terrace Tea Room accommodates up to 24 guests for intimate celebrations, kitchen teas, and private morning or afternoon bookings.

The estate’s award-winning wine range, crafted from its own vineyards with a passionate focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, is available for tasting and forms an integral part of the event and visitor experience. Gardens and Heritage

The estate’s 18 distinct garden sections, including the famous Rose Garden, Herb Garden, Octagonal Garden, and seasonal Sunflower Field, represent one of the finest privately maintained garden collections in South Africa. Parts of the estate have been declared a nature reserve.
