Goldfields West Private Golf Club

Goldfields West Private Golf Club has a Top 100-ranked, 18-hole par-72 course set in a serene bushveld nature reserve, about 75 km west of Johannesburg near Carletonville. The course is a declared nature reserve: springbok, blesbok, impala, duiker, reedbok, vervet monkeys and blue cranes roam the fairways. It has twice been rated in South Africa's top 20 by Compleat Golfer, and greats such as Bobby Locke and Tony Johnstone have played it.

History

The club is on the old Driefontein farm in the Wonderfontein Valley, bought by John Spranger Harrison in 1911 (his grave lies beside the 9th fairway). The original clubhouse was a stopover for travellers between the Kimberley diamond fields and the Johannesburg goldfields, and photographs of the old Zeederburg coaches still hang in the ladies' bar. The course dates from the 1950s.

Events Hosted

Weddings, year-end functions, golf days (including charity golf days), club social events and music evenings. The clubhouse has a functional kitchen, and the club also has a pro shop, driving range, putting green and golf academy. It is closed on Mondays.

Fun Casino Evenings at Goldfields West

Fun Casino Entertainment has entertained at Goldfields West in 2026, at a charity golf day for around 140 guests. After a round among the game, a casino evening in the function hall is a fitting way to raise funds and hand out prizes.
