Profile
The Rand Club is Johannesburg’s historic private members’ club and heritage venue on Loveday Street in Marshalltown. Founded in October 1887, the year after the city itself, the club has occupied its current clubhouse since 1904. Its walls have seen the arrests after the Jameson Raid in 1896 and a siege during the 1913 Miners’ Strike (the scars are still visible on the façade). After a fire in 2005, the building was refurbished, and its stained-glass dome is currently removed for safekeeping.
