Profile
Scott’s Manor Lichtenburg is the North West Province’s most celebrated boutique hotel and conference destination — a beautifully restored Georgian manor at 21 Bree Street in Retiefs Park, just two minutes from the Lichtenburg town centre, where high ceilings, wooden panelling, and the quiet elegance of a bygone era are combined with modern hospitality, professional conference infrastructure, and the personal warmth of manager Bitty and the Scott’s Manor team. Rated #1 of 22 hotels in Lichtenburg on TripAdvisor across 222 reviews, 8.8 out of 10 on Trip.com across 45 reviews (scoring 8.8 across cleanliness, amenities, location, and service), and described by its own positioning as “an exclusive oasis in historical Lichtenburg,” Scott’s Manor offers 21 en-suite guestrooms, 230 m² of conference and meeting space, a licensed bar and lounge, restaurant, outdoor swimming pool, complimentary Wi-Fi throughout, secure off-street parking, and a daily full breakfast — making it the complete business and leisure destination for the Lichtenburg area, which sits approximately 100 km east of Mahikeng and 180 km west of Johannesburg on the N14.
The Building: Georgian Splendour Restored
Scott’s Manor’s physical character is its most distinctive quality in the Lichtenburg accommodation market. The guesthouse has been restored to its Georgian splendour — the architectural style that defines the building’s high ceilings, wooden panel interior detailing, and formal, period-appropriate proportions. One TripAdvisor reviewer (DrhermanK, December 2014) captured the experience of a first night at Scott’s Manor with characteristic precision: “I was impressed with the guesthouse. It is usually the small things that make your stay worthwhile. I enjoyed the glass of sherry in the room. The room was very well furnished and the woodwork noteworthy.”
The restoration has been executed with careful attention to preserving the original architectural character while adding the contemporary amenities that business travellers require. The result is a guesthouse that feels genuinely distinctive — not a generic business hotel, but a place that reflects the historic character of Lichtenburg itself.
Accommodation: 21 Guestrooms and One Apartment Suite
Scott’s Manor offers 21 en-suite guestrooms across a range of configurations suited to both individual business travellers and small groups. All rooms include:
- Free Wi-Fi (100+ Mbps — rated good for 1–2 people or up to 6 devices)
- Satellite television
- Refrigerator and microwave in each room
- En-suite bathroom
- Complimentary filter coffee
One exceptional room is described as an apartment — a more spacious configuration with a “well-equipped” layout, a super-comfortable bed, and a “huge bathroom” with a lovely balcony, praised by a guest who had an unplanned layover and was “pleasantly surprised by the high standards.” Guests consistently describe the rooms as spacious, clean, and well-decorated — with “extremely spacious rooms and bathrooms” noted in a January 2025 review.
Pets are welcome at Scott’s Manor. Free, secure off-street parking is provided. A daily full breakfast (ZAR 150 per adult, ZAR 125 per child) is served from 07:00 to 09:00.
Conference and Event Venue: 230 m² in Three Configurations
Scott’s Manor’s conference offering is one of the most comprehensive available in the Lichtenburg area. The Cvent listing confirms 230 m² (2,476 sq ft) of dedicated conference and meeting space comprising multiple rooms, with the following setup configurations available: U-shape, banquet rounds, cocktail rounds, theatre, classroom, boardroom, crescent rounds (cabaret), E-shape, hollow square, perimeter seating, royal conference, talk show, and T-shape.
A TripAdvisor reviewer who hosted a workshop for 23 delegates described the experience: “The staff were very friendly and helpful. The participants enjoyed the beautiful space and tranquility of the trees, pool and gardens.” This level of natural surroundings — trees, pool, manicured gardens — within a conference setting is unusual for an inland North West town, and makes Scott’s Manor conferences genuinely restorative as well as productive.
The venue also hosts functions, wedding receptions, and private celebrations — the “Function” component of its full name reflecting active positioning in the private events market alongside corporate conferencing.
Bar, Lounge, Restaurant, and Pool
Bar and lounge — a licensed bar with comfortable lounge seating provides the social anchor for guests and conference delegates in the evenings. A free daily manager’s reception is offered — a touch that reflects the personal hospitality approach the team takes.
Restaurant and coffee shop — full meals and lighter café fare are available for guests throughout the day, including the full breakfast service. The food is described across reviews as “fantastic” — a quality that the Facebook page itself leads with in its positioning statement (“great service, fantastic food and the most welcoming atmosphere”).
Outdoor swimming pool — available to guests 24 hours a day, the pool and its surrounding garden provide one of the most relaxing outdoor environments available at any accommodation in the Lichtenburg area. The pool, trees, and gardens create what one delegate described as a genuine sense of “tranquillity” even in a town setting.
The Team: Bitty and a Culture of Personal Hospitality
Manager Bitty is named in multiple TripAdvisor responses and reviews as the personal face of Scott’s Manor’s hospitality — a hands-on presence who responds to reviews directly and whose name appears in the management’s own responses (“Sincerely, Bitty & Team”). One December 2025 reviewer specifically praised the owner as “hands-on” — a quality that makes the difference between a commercially operated guesthouse and a genuine hospitality experience.
A March 2025 Trip.com reviewer described the end-to-end experience: “Superb venue — it covered all my needs. From the request of quotations and communication with the team, all my needs were met and exceeded. The staff is pleasant and ready to satisfy the needs of the client to the best of their capabilities.”
