The estate sits between the Bromberg hills and the Zwavelpoort Spruit, immersed in mature trees, exotic plantings, and gardens that change character with the seasons. Wild monkeys are part of the landscape — a reminder that this is a genuinely natural setting, not a manicured garden park.

Seven Venues, One Estate

Riverside Castle’s versatility is its defining practical strength. With seven distinct spaces ranging from an intimate woodland clearing to an open-air piazza for 400 guests, the estate accommodates an unusually wide range of event sizes and styles on the same property.

The Castle is the flagship reception and function hall, accommodating up to 180 guests beneath natural stone walls, wooden trusses, and high ceilings anchored by an open fireplace. The architecture is genuinely medieval in character — oversized Renaissance windows, majestic arches, and stone floors that have hosted hundreds of receptions since 2007. It is the most photographed space on the estate and the heart of the Riverside Castle experience.

The Chapel seats up to 180 guests for ceremonies and stands in its own tranquil garden, framed by ivy-covered walls and surrounded by rare exotic plantings. High ceilings and Renaissance-style windows fill the space with natural light. The Chapel is available for morning, afternoon, or evening ceremonies and provides a sheltered outdoor feel that purely outdoor ceremony spaces cannot match in variable weather.

The Garden Palace, the estate’s newest flagship venue, accommodates up to 250 guests for outdoor wedding ceremonies and receptions. Its scale and open-air design make it ideal for couples who want the combination of garden atmosphere and impressive guest capacity.

The Piazza is the estate’s largest event space, handling up to 400 guests in an open-air setting suited to large receptions, corporate year-end functions, matric farewells, and product launches. It is one of the few outdoor event spaces in Pretoria East with this capacity on a single secured property.

The Summer Kitchen accommodates up to 80 guests and provides a more relaxed, informal atmosphere suited to smaller receptions, showers, high teas, and family celebrations.

The Fairy Woods is the estate’s most intimate space, hosting up to 30 guests in a woodland setting ideal for small ceremonies, elopements, styled shoots, and private gatherings.

The Bougainvillaea is the dedicated conference and corporate event venue, seating up to 100 people and configured for presentations, training days, team builds, board meetings, and year-end functions. It provides the estate’s primary corporate offering alongside the larger event spaces.

Weddings: Fully Customised, Coordinator-Led

Riverside Castle does not impose fixed décor packages or menu templates. Each couple selects their own vendors, colours, décor style, and catering choices, with the in-house team managing logistics and coordination from the first site visit to the final wrap-up. External suppliers are permitted, though certain surcharges may apply for décor teams, DJs, and self-catering arrangements. The venue is fully licensed and does not allow outside alcohol.

Each booking includes up to three dedicated planning meetings with an assigned coordinator. A 72-hour courtesy hold is offered following a site visit, after which a signed agreement and deposit are required to confirm the date. Payment plans are available, with a minimum of 50% of the booking value due two months before the event and the balance due 30 days prior. No cash payments are accepted on-site — card facilities are available.

Accommodation: The Chambers and Piazza Cottages

One of Riverside Castle’s key differentiators is that guests do not need to leave the property after the celebration. The estate offers a honeymoon suite and eight cottages within the grounds, keeping the wedding party together from the evening of the event through to the following morning.

The Chambers is the bridal suite, designed specifically for the newlyweds and immediate wedding party. It includes a private honeymoon suite, a single bedroom for a close family member or maid of honour, a make-up and hair studio, a living room, a small self-catering kitchen, a private balcony at the front entrance, and a bathroom. The suite is connected to the main reception hall via a stone spiral staircase and narrow stone passageways lit by handcrafted lanterns — a detail that makes the post-wedding evening feel like a continuation of the fairy-tale. Linen and towels are provided.

The Piazza Cottages comprise six standard cottages and two luxury cottages, all configured as two-sleeper rooms with twin single beds convertible to a king. Standard cottages include remote-controlled ceiling fans, bedding and bath towels, tea and coffee, a toilet and shower, and gas geyser hot water. Luxury cottages add a kitchenette area, additional space, and wood table and chairs. All cottages have covered parking and generator backup power. Guests share access to a communal pool veranda with a swimming pool, braai area, boma fire pit, communal gas cooker stove, and dining tables for up to 12 people.

No outside alcohol is permitted in the cottages; drinks can be pre-ordered from the venue.

Corporate Events and Functions

The Bougainvillaea conference venue and the estate’s larger spaces serve Pretoria East’s corporate market with a distinctive alternative to hotel conference centres. The setting — trees, garden views, and castle architecture — creates an environment well suited to leadership retreats, strategy days, year-end functions, and team-building events where the surroundings are intended to shift mindset as much as the agenda. The venue handles groups from approximately 20 to 200 people in conference format and up to 400 for year-end-style evening functions.
